Here I write about subjects, ideas, and experiences that stay with me. Some essays grow out of my life in academia, especially as a first-generation academic. Others explore education, art, literature, or culture.
I have always been curious about a wide range of subjects, and I have always loved to write. This corner of the internet gives me a place to follow that passion on my own terms. While my research sometimes finds its way into these texts, they are written first and foremost as essays: opportunities to engage with a topic without the constraints of academic writing. This also means that I do not claim to be an expert on every subject I write about, nor would I want to. After all, this is a different genre.
I generally aim to publish a new essay on the first day of each month, although there may occasionally be one in between. And, of course, life has a habit of getting in the way, so I cannot always promise to keep to that schedule.
